Abstract:
A cold cathode structure includes an insulation substrate, a conductive cathode electrode arranged on the insulation substrate, a gate insulation film arranged on the cathode electrode, a gate electrode arranged on the gate insulation film, an emitter hole formed through the gate electrode and the gate insulation film, and an electron emission section formed at the bottom of the emitter hole and having a distributed resistance component. The electron emission section has protrusions dispersed on its surface for emitting electrons. Protrusions at the center portion of the electron discharge section are connected to the cathode electrode via the distributed resistance component so as to have a first resistance value. Protrusions at the peripheral portion of the electron discharge section are connected to the cathode electrode via the distributed resistance component so as to have a second resistance value. The first resistance value is greater than the second resistance value. As a result, during operation, the protrusions at the center portion of the electron emission section have a higher potential than the protrusions at the peripheral portion.
