Abstract:
A collapsible column for a steering shaft of a vehicle assembled in the steering shaft
to non-rotatably and slidably fit a male shaft to a female shaft so that the outer
peripheral part of the male shaft can be brought into contact with the inner peripheral
part of the female shaft to transmit the torque when they are rotated. A grease
composition conforming to JIS K2220 and having an apparent viscosity of 400 to
750 Pa·s (25°C) at a shear rate of 10 sec-1 is sealed in the
gap between the outer peripheral part of the male shaft and the inner peripheral part
of the female shaft. The collapsible column does not require an additional machining
of the male shaft and the female shaft which increases the cost, and is comprehensively
improved in durability, reduced in resistance, and increased in stick/slip
resistance.
