Abstract:
A collision energy-absorbing material for a vehicle and a collision energy-absorbing structure of a vehicle using the material. The material has a simple structure capable of efficiently absorbing collision energy and having improved ability to protect pedestrians and vehicle occupants. The material has a compression energy-absorbing material (10) for absorbing compression energy caused by compressive deformation, and a buckling energy absorbing material (20) for absorbing buckling energy caused by buckling deformation. The combination of both energy- absorbing materials (10, 20) provides capability of absorbing collision energy in a vehicle body and provides buckling characteristics where a peak value of shock force less than a set value. The material has buckling energy- absorbing portions (11a, 11b) where at least either of collision timing at which collision energy absorption starts and peak value timing at which shock force reaches its peak after collision is set so as to vary in a stepped manner or continuous manner. Buckling deformation of the buckling energy-absorbing portions (11a, 11b) absorbs collision energy in the vehicle body.
