Abstract:

Disclosed is a color filter substrate wherein occurrence of a reverse tilt domain in a liquid crystal layer near the boundary between a color layer and a bank can be suppressed without providing a planarization layer on the color layer. Also disclosed is a liquid crystal display. The color filter substrate comprises a transparent insulating film on a base, and a bank and a plurality of color layers surrounded by the bank are formed on the insulating film. This color filter substrate is characterized in that the thickness of the insulating film is thinner in a region overlapping the central portion of the color layer than in a region overlapping the end portion of the color layer.
