Abstract:
Provided is a color image processing device that allows high-quality printing without defects such as blotchy ink or pitch unevenness, even when using a low number of levels. In said color image processing device, which performs multi-level recording using a dither pattern (11) in which each pixel comprises a plurality of dots, said dither pattern (11) is laid out as follows: a plurality of dot (13) groups are stacked together, each of said dot (13) groups consisting of a plurality of dots lined up in a movement direction in which a thermal head (40) and a recording medium (46) move relative to each other, and the beginning of each dot (13) group is offset by one or more dots in the aforementioned movement direction relative to the dot group above or below that dot group. A halftone image comprising the abovementioned pixels is recorded using variations in density, with the growth order going either from the dot (13) at the beginning of the top row of the dither pattern (11) to the dot (13) at the end of the bottom row or from the dot (13) at the beginning of the bottom row to the dot (13) at the end of the top row.
