A color wheel according to the present disclosure is provided with: a transparent substrate (2) provided with a first face (2a), a second face (2b) on the reverse side from the first face (2a), and an outer circumferential face (2d) and an inner circumferential face (2c) interconnecting the first face (2a) and the second face (2b), and having a rotation center (1c); a coloring section (3) that is disposed on the first face (2a) side of the substrate (2) and that converts excitation light radiated from a light source into converted light having a different wavelength; and a heat dissipating section (4) that is disposed in a region outside the optical paths of the excitation light and the converted light on at least one of the first face (2a) and the second face (2b), on the side of the outer circumferential face (2d) or the inner circumferential face (2c) of the substrate (2) with reference to the coloring section (3), and that has a greater thermal conductivity than the substrate (2).
