Disclosed is a colored composite microparticle which has an extremely small primary particle diameter, a high coloring power, an excellent dispersibility and excellent light resistance. Also disclosed is a method for production of the colored composite microparticle. Further disclosed is a dispersion product of the colored composite microparticle. A colored composite microparticle which is a composite particle composed of silica and an organic pigment, wherein the silica is encapsulated in the organic pigment, the silica is contained in an amount of 0.001 to 9% by weight in terms of Si relative to the amount of the composite particle; a coloring composition for use in a color filter which comprises a color filter-coloring material comprising the colored composite microparticle and wherein the coloring material is dispersed in a composite base material for the coloring composition; and an ink-jet ink which comprises an inkjet ink-coloring material comprising the colored composite microparticle and wherein the coloring material is dispersed in an ink constituent solution . The colored composite microparticle can be used as a coloring material for various applications (e.g., a conventional coating or printing ink) regardless of whether an aqueous system or a solvent system is employed, because of its high coloring power and excellent dispersibility and light resistance.
