Title:
COMBUSTION PROMOTER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1988/009430
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A combustion promoter for internal combustion engines, which is formed as follows. A minor cylinder and a minor piston (7) fitted therein are provided on the inner wall of a suitable portion of a combustion chamber-surrounding member, i.e. an end wall of a piston or an inner wall of a cylinder head in an internal combustion engine, and the minor piston (7) is driven in relation to the stroke of the piston in the internal combustion engine. The minor piston (7) is moved toward the combustion chamber until the piston (5) in the internal combustion engine has reached a position in the vicinity of a top dead center during a compression stroke, to introduce the gas in the combustion chamber into the minor cylinder and store the same therein. When the piston (5) in the internal combustion engine has reached a position in the vicinity of the top dead center, the minor piston (7) is moved rapidly into the minor cylinder to eject the storage gas therein into the combustion chamber, cause a swirl to occur in the gas which has just started combustion, and thereby promote the combustion of the gas.
