A communication apparatus comprises: a disaster information receiving unit connected to a communication line for receiving disaster information therefrom; a microphone; a speech recognizing unit for recognizing speeches input from the microphone; a communication unit; and a control unit. When the disaster information receiving unit receives disaster information from the communication line, the speech recognizing unit starts recognizing speeches from the microphone. When the speech recognizing unit recognizes the presence of the speeches from the microphone, the control unit controls the communication unit to make a call to a predetermined destination of communication.
