The present application provides a communication method and apparatus, and the method may be applied to a communication system, such as V2X, LTE-V, V2V, Internet of Vehicles, MTC, IoT, LTE-M, M2M, Internet of Things. In this method, a communication device of which the state is a standby communication device is able to take over a transmission task of a corresponding master communication device at any time to continue service transmission. In this way, a communication system, by changing the states of master and standby communication devices of the communication device, is able to ensure the continuity of service transmission, also prevent the communication device from running for a long time, thereby prolonging the service life of the communication device, further improving the transmission efficiency, and improving the user experience.
