A communication method and a communication apparatus. The method comprises: a first device first verifying a first bit sequence according to a CRC code to obtain a second bit sequence; then dividing the second bit sequence into P bit sequences, generating Q codewords according to the P bit sequences, and sending the Q codewords to a second device by means of P transmission layers, wherein P is the number of transmission layers of the first device, P is greater than or equal to 2, and Q is an integer greater than or equal to 2. The first device first verifies the first bit sequence according to the CRC code, and then divides the first bit sequence into P bit sequences, that is, bit allocation. That is, data between different transmission layers is coupled by means of CRC, so that data between different transmission layers is associated, and in a decoding process, a receiving end can decode a next transmission layer by utilizing the decoding result of a previous transmission layer, so that a decoding gain of the receiving end is increased.
