Abstract:
Provided are a communication method and device. The method comprises: a terminal device determining a current coverage level from at least two coverage levels according to the received power of a reference signal, wherein each coverage level of the at least two coverage levels corresponds to a power ramping step; and the terminal device, according to a current power ramping step corresponding to the current coverage level, sending, to a network device and according to a power ramping mode, a preamble for random access. Therefore, in the embodiments of the present application, the preamble is sent by the terminal device in the current coverage level according to the power ramping mode, so that the impact on other terminal devices can be reduced.
