Abstract:
This communication unit is provided with a transmission/reception unit for transmitting data to and receiving data from electronic storage media, and a data communication unit for causing data communication with the electronic storage media via the transmission/reception unit, wherein: the transmission/reception unit comprises a base portion which is formed of an insulating material and which extends in one direction, a first antenna portion which is formed of a conducting material and provided in an annular configuration around the outer peripheral surface of the base portion, and a cover portion which is formed of an insulating material and which covers the base portion and the first antenna portion; the data communication unit causes a magnetic flux to radiate from the first antenna portion toward the electronic storage media so that second antenna portions of the electronic storage media are flux-coupled to the first antenna portion, thereby causing data communication between the electronic storage media and the transmission/reception unit; and the first antenna portion is disposed in such a way that the first antenna portion can be flux-coupled to the second antenna portions of the electronic storage media, which are arranged in the longitudinal direction of the base portion.
