Abstract:
The present invention relates to a compact release mechanism for a nanosatellite that has the purpose of holding a test mass (sphere) inside a chamber where an experiment is carried out. The test mass is held by means of two mobile walls, which belong to the upper and lower faces of the chamber, which move at the same time in opposite directions to hold and position the sphere in the centre of the chamber at all times. The mechanism consists of two advancement screws which rotate in opposite directions from each other due to a DC motor and a gear system. These advancement screws are threaded to the upper and lower walls of the chamber, so that the rotation thereof leads to a translational and simultaneous displacement of the walls in opposite directions to compress and release the sphere.
