Abstract:
A comparative decision circuit (10) determines the level of a signal received via a transmission line (104) from a second device (102) at the other communicating end. An input/output terminal (P1) is connected to the transmission line (104). An attenuator circuit 12 attenuates the voltage at the input/output terminal (P1) to generate an attenuated voltage. A level comparator (CMP1) compares the attenuated voltage (Vc) with a prescribed threshold voltage (VOH’) and generates a level decision signal (SH) corresponding to the comparison result. A protective circuit (20) monitors the voltage or attenuated voltage at the input/output terminal (P1) and forcibly cuts off or changes the voltage input to the level comparator (CMP1) if the monitored voltage diverges from a prescribed voltage range.
