Abstract:
An apparatus for eliminating the differences in the curvatures of a facing lens blank and an abrasive pad mounted on a formable lap (20) includes a drivable track portion (14), a compensation pl ate (12) disposed on the drivable track portion (14), and a compensation member (18) removably disposed on the compensation plate (12). The compensation member (18) is removable from the compen sation plate (12) by a carriage (24) supporting the lens blank a nd is disposable between the lens blank and the formable lap (20). The method for compensating for the differences in curvature s of the formable lap (20) and lens blank includes inserting the compensation material (10) onto the formable lap (20), softening the formable lap (20), placing the lens blank over the compensation material (10) to cause the formable lap (20) to conform to a shape of the lens blank, allowing the formable lap (20) to cur e, removing the lens blank, and removing the compensation materi al (10).
