Title:
COMPOSITE COILED TUBING END CONNECTOR AND PIPE-TO-PIPE CONNECTOR
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2001025667
Kind Code:
A9
Abstract:
An improved end connector includes a connector service end (31), a slip nut (35) disposed about the outer surface of a composite pipe (15) and engageable with the service end, and a slip (45) positioned about the outer surface of the pipe and engaged by the service end (31) and the slip nut. Progressive engagement of the service end (31) relative to the slip nut (35) radially compresses the slip (45) into gripping contact with the pipe (15). The slip preferably includes pipe-engaging teeth that are sized and shaped to penetrate into an outer layer of the composite pipe. A seal carrier (47) is received within the service end (31) and within the pipe (15) and carries a seal member (53), such as an elastomeric O-ring, to seal between the pipe and the seal carrier. The seal carrier is positioned in the pipe bore at a location radially opposite the slip to resist deformation of the pipe when the slip is compressed into gripping contact with the pipe. In addition, a connector for connecting a first composite pipe with a second composite pipe is described. The pipe-to-pipe connector includes a double seal carrier (220) of unitary construction positioned within the end of the first pipe (202a) and within the end of the second pipe (202b). A first seal member (229) is provided on the double seal carrier to sealinly engage the inner surface of the first pipe. A second seal member (229) is provided on the double seal carrier to sealingly engage the inner surface of the second pipe in a sealing relationship. In addition, a connector for connecting a first composite pipe with a second composite pipe, or connecting a first composite pipe to a service member, without a seal carrier is described.
