Abstract:
Provided is a composite fiber being capable of suppressing swelling caused by water, and having an adsorbing ability not only to acidic substances, such as an anionic group-containing derivative, an oxyacid salt, an acidic protein containing plenty of amino acids having a plurality of carboxyl groups but also to basic substances, such as nitrogenous compound and a basic protein containing plenty of amino acids having a plurality of amino groups. A composite fiber according to an embodiment is formed by supporting, on the surface of a chitosan fiber, cellulose fibers having an I-type crystal structure and having an anionic functional group. A method for producing a composite fiber according to an embodiment is a method for producing said composite fiber and includes a step for obtaining a composite fiber by spinning an aqueous chitosan salt solution in a coagulation liquid that contains cellulose fiber and alkali.
