Provided is a gel foam, which is lightweight, is highly elastic and highly compressible, has surface adhesiveness, has pliability controlled within a broad range, and in addition is stable in air. An organic/inorganic composite gel is obtained by effectively forming a composite from a polymer of a water-soluble organic monomer, an exfoliated lamellar clay mineral, a medium of low volatility, and one or more fillers selected from organic hollow microparticles and inorganic hollow microparticles. An organic/inorganic composite gel foam is also obtained which uses foamable hollow microparticles as a filler. The organic/inorganic composite gel and the organic/inorganic composite gel foam can be used as lightweight materials having excellent elasticity in fields such as medical therapy, medical equipment, medical prevention, health, sporting goods, hygiene products, products for the home, analytical instruments, construction, civil engineering, machinery, transportation, electronic members, agriculture, and packaging.
