Title:
COMPOSITE HOLLOW YARN AND A PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1987/000213
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Novel composite porous hollow yarn composed of thermoplastic organic high molecular compounds of different kinds or the same kind, wherein at least two or more layers having fine pores of dissimilar sizes are joined, fine pores in each of the layers are communicated with one another to form fine pores that are contiguous from the outer surface to the inner surface of the hollow yarn, and the layer containing larger pores have a thickness greater than that of the layer containing smaller pores. The invention further provides a process for producing the composite hollow yarn by melt-spinning high molecules of the different kinds or the same kind through a nozzle having two or more annular blow ports that are concentrically arranged, stretching the yarn, and then thermally setting the yarn. The composite hollow yarn exhibits a higher rate of permeation for permeating substances than the conventional hollow yarns. The yarn further exhibits a predetermined fractionating property, and helps improve chemical and physical interaction relative to particular substances.
