Abstract:
Disclosed is a composite material which is suitable for the formation of a component for continuous casting, said component being less susceptible to flowing of the molten metal into the gap between a nozzle and a movable mold and thus enabling continuous casting of a cast material, which has excellent surface quality, for a long period of time.
Specifically disclosed is a composite material (a nozzle (1)) which comprises a porous body (2) having a plurality of pores and a filler that is internally present in at least a part of a surface portion of the porous body (2), said surface portion coming into contact with a melt of pure magnesium or a magnesium alloy. The filler, which is internally present in the porous body (2), is composed of at least one substance that is selected from among nitrides, carbides and carbon.
