Abstract:
A composite material characterized by comprising a matrix and carbon fiber structures contained in the matrix in an amount of 0.1-30 mass% based on the whole, the carbon fiber structures being ones which have a three-dimensional network composed of carbon fibers having an outer diameter of 15-100 nm and have particulate parts which each bonds two or more of the carbon fibers to one another in such a manner that the carbon fibers extend from the particulate part and which have been formed in the course of growth of the carbon fibers. The composite material, which contains the carbon fiber structures, can be improved in physical properties including electrical properties, mechanical properties, and thermal properties without impairing the properties of the matrix, although the amount of the carbon fiber structures added is small.
