Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to achieve improvement in the joining strength of a composite member obtained by joining together WC-based cemented carbides via joining members each formed from pure Ti foil or Ti alloy foil. Provided are a composite member and a tool made of the composite member. In the composite member, WC-based cemented carbide members are joined together with a joining section and modified layers interposed therebetween, and joining members each formed from pure Ti foil or Ti alloy foil are joined together by solid-state diffusion, wherein: the joining section has a component composition in which not less than 50 atom% of Ti are contained and the remaining portion contains at least W, C, and Co; in binder phases which are adjacent to the joining section and which are in the vicinity of the interfaces of the respective WC-based cemented carbide members, the modified layers each having an average width of 0.2-5.0 µm are formed; and each of the binder phases of the modified layers has a composition formed of 5-20 atom% of W, 5-20 atom% of C, and the remaining portion of 60-90 atom% of Co and inevitable impurities.
