Abstract:
Disclosed is a composite substrate for an electro-optical element. This composite substrate is provided with: an electro-optical crystal substrate having an electro-optical effect; a low-refractive-index layer which abuts the electro-optical crystal substrate and has a lower refractive index than the electro-optical crystal substrate; and a support substrate which is bonded, at least via a bonding layer, to the low-refractive-index layer. In the composite substrate, at least one of a plurality of interfaces present between the low-refractive-index layer and the support substrate has a surface roughness greater than that of an interface between the electro-optical crystal substrate and the low-refractive-index layer.
