The present invention relates to novel use of oxiracetam, and to a composition for ameliorating, treating, or preventing muscular diseases, comprising oxiracetam as an active ingredient. The composition of the present invention can prevent, treat, or ameliorate muscular diseases, and particularly, amelioration, prevention, and treatment effects thereof have been confirmed in dexamethasone-treated animal models of muscular dystrophy, sarcopenia, and DUCHENNE muscular dystrophy and cellular models of cachexia muscular disease and inflammatory muscular disease. Thus, the composition of the present invention can be utilized as a pharmaceutical composition, a food composition, and the like, for preventing or treating muscular diseases.
