The present invention provides a composition comprising an Undariopsis peterseniana extract for preventing hair loss and improving hair growth. The Undariopsis peterseniana extract of the present invention has the function of enabling the length of hair fibers to grow and facilitating the growth of dermal papilla cells that play a significant role in hair growth, and the ability to inhibit 5α-reductase activity and increase NIH3T3 fibroblast. Therefore, the Undariopsis peterseniana extract of the present invention can be effectively used as a material for a functional cosmetic composition or a pharmaceutical composition for preventing hair loss/improving hair growth. The Undariopsis peterseniana extract is a natural material and thus is edible, and therefore, the composition of the present invention comprising the Undariopsis peterseniana extract as an active ingredient has advantages of safety even over a long period of use.
