Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, alleviating, or treating muscle weakness-related diseases, containing an extract of foxtail as an active ingredient. The foxtail extract according to the present invention has no or few side effects by using natural products, increases muscle mass and strength, inhibits fibrosis of muscle tissue, improves antioxidant metabolism, and inhibits lipid accumulation in muscle, thereby increasing the quality of muscle cells, such that the foxtail extract is expected to be useful for the development of medicines and functional foods for the prevention, alleviation, or treatment of muscle weakness-related diseases. In addition, the foxtail extract according to the present invention inhibits an increase in weight and body fat from a high-fat diet, and has the effects of alleviating oxidative damages, alleviating dyslipidemia, alleviating insulin resistance, and ameliorating fatty liver, liver toxicity, and fibrosis, such that the foxtail extract is expected to be useful for the development of functional foods and medicines for the prevention, treatment, or alleviation of obesity-related complications that may be caused by weight gain as well as alleviation of obesity and body fat.
