Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing a Reynoutria japonica extract or a fraction thereof as an active ingredient for the prevention or treatment of dry eye syndrome, and to a health functional food containing a Reynoutria japonica extract or a fraction thereof as an active ingredient for the prevention or alleviation of dry eye syndrome. The Reynoutria japonica extract or the fraction thereof of the present invention can significantly suppress a reduction in the amount of tears secreted and a change in the shape of cornea, which result from dry eye syndrome, and thus can be widely utilized in the development of a pharmaceutical composition for the prevention or treatment of eye fatigue and dry eye syndrome.
