Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition which contains Schisandra chinensis leaf extract as an active ingredient and is for preventing, improving, and treating atopic dermatitis. Schisandra chinensis extract, the active ingredient of the present invention, has an antihistamine effect in macrophages and mast cells, as well as a NO generation inhibition effect. In particular, Schisandra chinensis leaf extract has a superior antihistamine activity to Schisandra chinensis fruit and stem extract and reduces the amount of cytokine (TNF-α, IL-6) secreted in mast cells while also significantly reducing the amount of chemokine (TARC, RANTES) in human keratinocytes (HaCaT cells), and as such, the composition of the present invention can be utilized to good effect as a composition for prevention, improvement and treatment of atopic dermatitis.
