Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a material for forming an optical waveguide, which has a low propagation loss even in a long wavelength range and has a high refractive index at a wavelength of 1,550 nm. [Solution] A composition for forming an optical waveguide, which contains (a) 100 parts by mass of a reactive silsesquioxane compound that is a polycondensation product of an alkoxysilane compound A represented by formula [1] with an alkoxysilane compound B represented by formula [2] and (b) 10 to 500 parts by mass of a fluorene compound represented by formula [3]; and an optical waveguide produced using the composition. (In formula [1], Ar1 represents a phenyl group, a naphthyl group or a biphenyl group each of which has at least one group having a polymerizable double bond; and R1 represents a methyl group or an ethyl group.) (In formula [2], Ar2 represents a phenyl group, a condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon group or a hydrocarbon ring assembly group each of which may be substituted by an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and R2 represents a methyl group or an ethyl group.) (In formula [3], R3 and R4 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; L1 and L2 independently represent a phenylene group or a naphthalenediyl group each of which may have a substituent; L3 and L4 independently represent an alkylene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and m and n independently represent 0 or a positive integer, wherein m + n is 0 to 40.)
