Abstract:
[Problem] To provide an ophthalmic composition that is efficacious for preventing or treating myopia or ophthalmic diseases. In particular, to provide: an ophthalmic composition that is efficacious for growing children and young adults, in whom myopia is likely to occur or develop, as well as middle-aged and senior adults who are liable to be attacked by age-related ophthalmic diseases such as cataract, glaucoma, retinal detachment, retinopathy, maculopathy, choroidal neovascular, posterior staphyloma and optic neuropathy; a functional food comprising the ophthalmic composition; and a screening method usable for searching for the same.
[Solution] An ophthalmic composition or a functional food comprising at least one ingredient selected from the group consisting of crocetin and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof and ginkgo leaf extract.
