The present invention relates to a composition for improving athletic performance or preventing, alleviating or treating muscular diseases, containing an extract of Gynostemma pentaphyllum leaves as an active ingredient. The composition of the present invention contains an extract of Gynostemma pentaphyllum leaves as an active ingredient and exhibits the excellent effects of improving athletic performance and increasing physical strength, and thus is expected to be very effectively used in the fields of medicine or functional foods, and the like.
