Title:
COMPOSITION FOR INHIBITING GROWTH OF BREAST CANCER STEM CELLS, COMPRISING PHENYLACETALDEHYDE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2017/188690
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition for inhibiting the growth of breast cancer stem cells, which comprises phenylacetaldehyde or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient, an aromatic composition, a pharmaceutical composition for inhibiting the metastasis of breast cancer or treating or preventing breast cancer, which comprises said composition, and a food composition. Phenylacetaldehyde according to the present invention inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells and inhibits the formation of breast cancer stem cells. Further, phenylacetaldehyde according to the present invention has inhibited the expression of self-renewal genes, such as Nanog, Sox2, Oct4, and CD44, known to be characteristically expressed in breast cancer stem cells, has inhibited the production of IL-6 known to be involved in the mammosphere formation of breast cancer stem cells, and has been confirmed to inhibit an STAT3 signaling pathway. Accordingly, said compound inhibits the growth of breast cancer stem cells and can be utilized in the treatment of breast cancer.
