Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating diabetes complications containing Litsea japonica extract or fractions thereof as an active ingredient, and more particularly, to Litsea japonica extract or fractions thereof for suppressing the generation of an advanced glycation end product, which is an indicator of diabetes complications, and the activity of aldose reductase, preventing diabetic eye diseases (diabetic cataract and retinopathy) that are early symptoms of diabetes complications and the loss of podocytes, wherein decreasing expression of nephrin, which is a slit diagram protein that plays an important role in podocyte functions, is suppressed in particular, thereby rendering the present invention useful as the active ingredient in the composition for preventing and treating diabetes complications including diabetic nephropathy.
