Description:

COMPOSITION FOR SHAVING

Description

The present invention relates to a composition for shaving. Specifically, the present invention relates to a composition for replacing, for example, a shaving foam or shaving gel during shaving.

The composition according to the present invention is characterized in that the composition is based on the use of vegetable oils during shaving.

These oils provide good, and smooth, shaving results and also skin care by, for example, preventing dehydration of the skin. The use of oils for shaving, and particularly vegetable oils, provides many advantages as compared to, for example, a shaving foam or shaving gel.

Firstly, the oils prevent, because of their inherent hydrating nature, dehydration of the skin. Additionally, they cause, and especially vegetables oils, less, or no, irritation of the skin.

Further, oils provide, because of their nature, anti-frictional or lubricating properties, thereby improving the sliding of the knives over the skin. Furthermore, oils, and particularly vegetable oils, are, because of their natural origin, in general biologically degradable thereby providing less environmental stress through the use of oils during shaving as compared to the use of, often on chemicals based, shaving foams and shaving gels.

The use of oils, and particularly vegetable oils, for shaving is known. However, in order to effectively use

these oils for shaving, a disadvantage is that the skin must repeatedly be moisturized to allow good shaving results.

Further, these oils unevenly distribute over the skin, and they cause agglomeration of the bodily hairs on a shaving knife. Furthermore, it is difficult to remove the bodily hairs shaved from the shaving knife.

Considering the above, it an object of the present invention to provide the use of oils, and particularly vegetable oils, as an alternative for, for example, shaving foam or shaving gel, thereby obviating the present disadvantages accompanying the use of these oils.

The present invention not only provides a solution for the disadvantages, until the present invention, associated with the use of oils for shaving, but also provides many advantages as compared to the use of a shaving foam or shaving gel .

For this, the present invention provides a composition as defined in claim 1.

Specifically, the present invention provides a composition for use during shaving, and especially as a shaving foam or shaving gel replacement, comprising: a) 5-20% (w/w) of one ore more vegetable oils; b) 20-50% (w/w) of a lower alkyl, branched or unbranched, comprising 1 to 4 carbon atoms; c) 1-10% (w/w) of one or more structure providing compounds ; and d) 40-65% (w/w/) water.

Within the context of the present invention, the indication % (w/w) indicates the weight percentages in relation to the total weight of the composition.

The present inventors have surprisingly found that, when vegetable oils are used in the above composition,

repated moisterizing of the skin is no longer necessary during shaving .

Further, the present inventors have found that, when using the present composition, little of no irritation of the skin occurred and the skin felt flexible and soft after shaving.

Furthermore, it was found that the shaving knives smoothly slid over the skin. This was accompanied by an effective removal of the bodily hairs . It was also found that the present composition evenly distributed over the skin and the shaved hairs did not agglomerate and could readily be removed from the shaving knife.

In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the composition further comprises 0.1-2% (w/w) of a surfactant or a soap component . Although any surfactant or soap component generally used in personal care products is also suitable for use in accordance with the present invention, it is particularly preferered that the surfactant or soap component is saponins such as Quillaia saponins.

The composition according to the present invention preferably also comprises 1-10% (w/w) wax. Examples of suitable waxes are cocoa butter, bees wax, shee butter, candelilla wax or carnauba wax.

In a particularly preferred embodiment, the composition according to the present invention comprises one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of vitamin A (carotene) , vitamin E (tocopherol acetate) , menthol, and skin care products such as preferably boswellia serrata extract (soothex) .

Thes ingredients further attribute to the skin caring characteristics of the present composition or a refreshed feeling after shaving. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the composition according to the present invention comprises: a) 2-10% (w/w) Aloe Vera; b) 4-11% (w/w) thistle oil; c) 0.1-0.42% (w/w) castor oil; d) 25-50% (w/w) ethanol; e) 0.2-0.8% (w/w) guar gum; f) 0.4-1.35% (w/w) xanthan; g) 0.3-1.4% (w/w) locust bean gum;

h) 1-5% (w/w) silicon dioxide (aerosil) ; i) 0.1-0.5% (w/w) saponins; and j) 40-60% (w/w) water.

The above composition according to the present invention is preferably supplemented with: k) 1-2% (w/w) boswellia serata extract

(soothex) .

The above composition according to the present invention is further preferably supplemented with: 1) 0.1-0.65% (w/w) menthol.

Finally, the above composition according to the present invention is preferably supplemented with: m) 0.001-0.005% (w/w) vitamin A (carotene); and n) 0.3-0.9% (w/w/) vitamin E (tocopherol acetate) .
