An aqueous composition comprising: (a) an acyl isethionate of formula (I): wherein R1 is an alkyl or alkenyl group having from (7) to (21) carbon atoms and M+ a cation; and (b) an amphoteric, betaine or sultaine surfactant; wherein the weight ratio of component (a) to component (b) is more than 3:1.
