The present invention relates to a compound artificial liver system and the method for using the system. The said system includes a blood/plasma displacement and/or adsorption device for removing poisonous materials and hazardous substance such as aromatic series amino-acid and phenylic-acid, and the said system also includes a biological artificial liver device. The said blood/plasma displacement/adsorption device includes a plasma segregation apparatus for segregating the plasma of a patient and ejecting the segregated plasma, and the said blood/plasma displacement/adsorption device also includes a fine plasma guiding apparatus which includes pumps, valves and conduits, and the said apparatus blood/plasma displacement/adsorption device also includes a thermostatic apparatus for keeping the said blood/plasma displacement/adsorption device at the body temperature. The said biological artificial liver device includes a bioreactor composed of a hepatocyte culture apparatus and a substance exchanger, a blood/plasma constant flow apparatus, a cultural liquid constant flow apparatus, and a thermostatic apparatus.
