Provided are: a triarylmethane compound which can provide a colored material that can retain light resistance at a level equivalent to those of conventional colored materials and exhibits little change in color over a long period even when the colored material experiences a high-temperature heat history, for example, which can be used in the preparation of a blue pixel part of a color filter to provide a liquid crystal display device or the like that retains light resistance at a level equivalent to those of conventional colored materials and high luminance and enables the liquid crystal display having excellent luminance over a long period even at higher temperatures; and a color filter which contains the triarylmethane compound in a blue pixel part thereof. In the triarylmethane compound, a counter anion for a basic triarylmethane dye cation is a heteropolyoxometallate anion represented by the formula: (SiMoW11O40)4-/4. In the color filter, the triarylmethane compound is contained in a blue pixel part thereof.
