Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a compound that can inhibit HCV-induced activation of TGF-β receptors and a method for screening the same. It was discovered that HCV NS3 protease binds to TGF-β type I receptors and that the binding activates the TGF-β receptors. Moreover, the binding sites between the NS3 protease and the TGF-β type I receptors were identified and it was discovered that antibodies recognizing the binding sites inhibit NS3 protease-induced activation of TGF-β receptors. Furthermore, it was discovered that a compound that inhibits TGF-β receptor activation can be screened by using as an index inhibition of binding between the NS3 protease and the TGF-β type I receptors.
