Abstract:
The present invention provides a compound expressed by general formula (1) as a compound that has high dielectric anisotropy (Δε), a high nematic-phase upper-limit temperature (Tni), and high storage stability; the compound being useful as an organic electronic material or an agromedical chemical, and especially as a material for a liquid crystal display element. Also provided is a liquid crystal composition containing the compound expressed by general formula (1) and a liquid crystal display element in which the liquid crystal composition is used. The compound expressed by general formula (1) has a high (Δε), a high (Tni), and high compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds. Therefore, using the compound expressed by general formula (1) as a component of a liquid crystal composition makes it possible to obtain a liquid crystal composition that demonstrates high Δε and a liquid crystal phase across a broad temperature range, making the compound extremely useful as a component of a liquid crystal composition for a liquid crystal display element.
