A liquid crystal composition containing a compound represented by general formula (AA) exhibits sufficient solubility and excellent haze lowering properties, while being usable in a wide concentration range. (In the formula, B1 represents an n-valent chain linking group having 1-40 carbon atoms (said chain linking group containing at least one -CR101R102- (wherein each of R101 and R102 represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, -COOH, -SO3H, -SH-, -NH3 or -OH) but not containing a cyclic structure); each of L1 and L2 represents a single bond, -O-, -S-, -CO-, -COO-, -OCO-, -COS-, -SCO-, -C(=S)O-, -NR0CO- or -CONR0- (wherein R0 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms); A1 represents a divalent aromatic hydrocarbon group or heterocyclic group; A2 represents an (l + 1)-valent aromatic hydrocarbon group; Sp1 represents a single bond or an alkylene group having 1-10 carbon atoms; Hb1 represents a fluorine-substituted alkyl group having 4-30 carbon atoms; n is a number of 2-6; m is a number of 0-2; and l is 2 or 3.)
