Abstract:
Provided are a compound separation method and separation device whereby, even if the specific gravity of substances included in a compound is low, or there is insufficient difference in susceptibility of the substances in the compound, it is possible to separate the compound using a gradient magnetic field. This compound separation method separates a compound including first particles and second particles by particle type, using a fluid (31). The first and second particles are respectively formed with either a diamagnetic or paramagnetic substance. The susceptibility of the fluid (31) is a value which is between the susceptibility of the first particles and the susceptibility of the second particles. This separation method comprises: a step of inserting the compound in the liquid (31), wherein a magnetic field with a magnetic gradient which has a horizontal component is imparted to the liquid (31), and floating the first and second particles on the surface of the liquid (31); or a step of inserting the compound in the liquid (31), and imparting the magnetic field with the magnetic gradient which has the horizontal component to the first and second particles which are floating on the surface of the liquid (31).
