AMENDED CLAI MS received by the International Bureau on 15 December 2016 (15.12.16). I CLAIM: 1. A novel, synergistic alcoholic extract from the leaves of Vitex nigundo which when added to antibiotics not only increases antibiotic activity but also helps to overcome antibiotic resistance WHEREIN the same has distinctive analytical fingerprints as given in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 and the marker compounds in the extract are vitexin and quercitin. 2. The extract as claimed in claim 1 WHEREIN the marker compounds in the said extract are vitexin and derivatives of vitexin. 3. The extract as claimed in claim 1 WHEREIN the marker compounds in the said extract are quercitin and derivatives of quercitin. 4. The extract as claimed in claim 1 WHEREIN the marker compounds in the said extract are vitexin, quercitin and derivatives of vitexin and quercitin. 5. A process for preparation of the extract as claimed in claim 1 WHEREIN the same consists of the following steps: Sample collection: Fresh leaves of Vitex nigundo are taken and washed with tap water to remove dust and impurities followed by a final wash with distilled water; - Surface Sterilization: is carried out by washing the leaves with 1.0% sodium hypochlorite for 5 minutes followed by 3-4 washes with sterile distilled water and dried at 37°C; - Extraction and Purification: is carried out by powdering the dried leaves and extracting with organic solvent such as ethyl alcohol for three 17 times followed by purification on silica gel column to obtain the final extract of invention having fingerprints as shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 |
