Abstract:
This compression apparatus comprises an electrolyte film, an anode provided to one main surface of the electrolyte film, a cathode provided to the other main surface of the electrolyte film, an anode separator provided on the anode, a cathode separator provided on the cathode, and a voltage-applying device that applies a voltage between the anode and the cathode, the compression apparatus being such that, due to the application of the voltage by the voltage-applying device, protons extracted from an anode current supplied to the anode are caused to move to the cathode via the electrolyte film, and compressed hydrogen is produced, wherein: a first O-ring groove is provided in a cathode-side main surface of the cathode separator, the O-ring groove surrounding a region on said main surface that faces the cathode; and the compression apparatus comprises a first O-ring held in the first O-ring groove, and a surface sealing material provided on the outer periphery of a region on an anode-side main surface of the anode separator that faces the anode.
