Abstract:
A compression garment system for circulatory-related disorder therapy is provided. The compression garment includes a first layer and a second layer coupled to the first layer. The first layer and the second layer form a first wrap and one or more expandable air chambers configured to extend around an instep region and/or side region of a user's foot. The one of more air chambers are configured to be pressurized and depressurized to implement circulatory-related disorder therapy to the instep and/or side of the user's foot.

CLAIMS

What is claimed is:

1. A compression garment for circulatory-related disorder therapy, the compression garment comprising: a first layer; a second layer coupled to the first layer, the first layer and the second layer forming a first wrap and one or more expandable air chambers configured to extend around an instep region and side region of a user’s foot, wherein the one of more air chambers are configured to be pressurized and depressurized to implement circulatory-related disorder therapy to the instep and/or side of the user’s foot; and a sole member arranged to support an entirety of the sole of the user, wherein one end of the first wrap is secured to the sole member and a second end of the first wrap extends away from the sole member such that the first wrap supports the instep region and side region of the user’s foot.

2. The compression garment of claim 1, wherein the first wrap is secured to the sole member via a latch mechanism, a tacky interface, or a magnetic fastening system.

3. The compression garment of claim 1 or claim 2, wherein in a donned configuration, the second end of the first wrap is configured to overlap a portion of a second wrap of the compression garment.

4. The compression garment of any one of claims 1 to 3, further comprising: a toe member secured to the sole member, the toe member configured to cover the user’s toes.

5. The compression garment of any one of claims 1 to 4, further comprising: a heel member secured to the sole member, the heel member configured to contact the user’s heel to support the user’s foot in place.

6. The compression garment of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the one or more expandable air chambers includes a plurality of sub-chambers separated by one or more barrier boundaries.

7. The compression garment of claim 6, wherein the one or more barrier boundaries include (i) walls formed between the first layer and the second layer or (ii) welds between the first layer and the second layer.

8. The compression garment of any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the sole member comprises: a first sole layer; and a second sole layer coupled to the first sole layer, the first sole layer and the second sole layer forming one or more expandable air chambers configured to extend below a sole region of a user’s foot, wherein the one of more air chambers are configured to be pressurized and depressurized to implement circulatory-related disorder therapy to the sole region of the user’ s foot.

9. The compression garment of anyone of claims 3 to 8, wherein each of the first and the second wraps has a fixed end secured to the sole portion and a free end extendable around a side of the user’s foot.

10. The compression garment of any one of claims 3 to 9, wherein the first and the second wraps engage with each other to secure the user’s foot to the sole portion.

11. A compression garment for circulatory-related disorder therapy, the compression garment comprising: a sole member for supporting a user’s foot; and an instep member extendable around the instep and/or sides of the user’s foot, wherein the instep member includes an elastic material that expands during use and applies pressure to the instep region of the user’s foot.

12. The compression garment of claim 11, further comprising:

AMENDED SHEET (ARTICLE 19) 80 at least two wraps, each of the at least two wraps having a fixed end secured to the sole portion and a free end extendable around a side of the user’s foot.

13. The compression garment of claim 12, wherein the at least two wraps engage with each other to secure the user’s foot to the sole portion.

14. The compression garment of claim 13, wherein a first one of the at least two wraps is secured to an outer surface of a second one of the at least two wraps to secure the user’s foot to the sole portion.

15. The compression garment of claim 13 or claim 14, wherein the at least two wraps extend about and cover the instep member when the user’s foot is secured to the sole portion.

16. The compression garment of any one of claims 11 to 15, further comprising: a toe member secured to the sole member, the toe member configured to cover the user’s toes.

17. The compression garment of any one of claims 11 to 16, further comprising: a heel member secured to the sole member, the heel member configured to contact the user’s heel to hold the user’s foot in place.

18. A compression garment system for circulatory-related disorder therapy, the compression garment system comprising: a compression garment including an instep portion and a sole portion; and a unitary elastic cover member extendable over a toe portion of the compression garment and further extendable around the instep portion and sole portion, wherein the unitary elastic cover member expands during use and, applies pressure to the compression garment as at least one component of circulatory-related disorder therapy.

The compression garment for circulatory -related disorder therapy of claim 15, wherein the instep portion includes an elastic portion and an air chamber portion, the elastic portion being expandable during use when the user’s instep is positioned between the sole member and the instep portion, the elastic portion

AMENDED SHEET (ARTICLE 19) 81 applying pressure during use to the instep region of the user’s foot, the air chamber portion configured to be pressurized and depressurized during use as part of circulatory-related disorder therapy for the instep and/or sides of the user’s foot.

20. A compression garment system for circulatory-related disorder therapy, the garment system comprising: a sole member for supporting a user’s foot; an instep member extendable around the instep of the user’s foot, the instep member including a plurality of anchor points; and a plurality of pull-back straps each corresponding to one of the plurality of anchor points, wherein the instep member is secured via the pull-back straps, each pull-back strap extending through the corresponding one of the plurality of anchor points.

21. The compression garment system of claim 20, wherein the instep member further includes a loop for securing the user’s limb to the instep member.

22. The compression garment of claim 20 or claim 21, wherein the pull-back straps secure the instep member to the sole member using hook and loop material fasteners.

23. The compression garment of any one of claims 20 to 22, further comprising two side members extending from the sole member, wherein the plurality of pull-back straps is included in each of the two side members.

24. A compression garment for circulatory-related disorder therapy, the compression garment system comprising: a sole member for supporting a user’s foot; and a tongue member extendable from a toe end of the sole member along the instep of the user’s foot; an ankle member extendable from a heel end of the sole member and wrappable about the user’s ankle to compress the tongue member against the user’s ankle;

AMENDED SHEET (ARTICLE 19) 82 a wing wrap extending from a side of the sole member around the tongue portion to compress a middle portion of the tongue member at or near an instep portion of the user’s foot, wherein the ankle member and wing wrap during use provide a tight fit of the foot compression garment about the user’s foot.

25. The compression garment of claim 24, wherein the ankle member is secured via at least partially overlapping ankle straps.

26. The compression garment of claim 24 or claim 25, further comprising: one or more air chambers configured to be pressurized and depressurized to implement circulatory-related disorder therapy to the user’s foot, the one or more air chambers included in at least one of the ankle member, the tongue member, the wing wrap, and/or the sole member.

27. The compression garment of claim 26, wherein the one or more air chambers is formed between a first layer and a second layer coupled to the first layer.

28. The compression garment of claim 26 or claim 27, wherein the one or more air chambers includes a plurality of sub-chambers separated by one or more barrier boundaries.

29. The compression garment of claim 28, wherein the one or more barrier boundaries include (i) walls formed between the first layer and the second layer or (ii) welds between the first layer and the second layer.

30. The compression garment of any one of claims 24 to 29, wherein the wing wrap includes at least two wing portions that overlap each other at least partially, when in use.

31. A compression garment system for circulatory-related disorder therapy, the compression garment system comprising: a garment member comprising a set of two or more inflatable sections, each of the two or more inflatable sections being connectable to at least one other inflatable section, the garment member configured to be fitted about a user’s

AMENDED SHEET (ARTICLE 19) limb, the limb defining a limb axis, the garment member including a first edge and a second edge, the first edge being opposite to the second edge and both edges being generally parallel to the limb axis when the garment is donned; and/or two or more detachable tab members for securing the garment member to the user’s limb, the two or more detachable tab members being connectable to at least one inflatable section, wherein the at least two inflatable sections are of the same type, but are different from each other in at least one dimensional parameter, and/or the at least two detachable tab members are different from each other in at least one dimensional parameter.

32. The compression garment system of claim 31, wherein each set of inflatable sections includes inflatable sections of one size that is different from a size of any other set of inflatable sections and/or each set of detachable tab members includes detachable tab members of one size that is different from a size of any other set of detachable tab members.

33. The compression garment system of claim 32, wherein detachable tabs associated with different inflatable sections have different lengths.

34. The compression garment system of any one of claims 31 to 33, wherein the garment member comprises a thigh section of one size and a calf section of a different size.

35. The compression garment system of any one of claims 31 to 33, wherein the garment member comprises a pairing of a thigh section and a calf section, each of the thigh section and the calf section selected from an assortment of interchangeable size sections.

36. The compression garment system of claim 35, wherein the interchangeable size sections include a first thigh section having a first thigh size, a second thigh section having a second thigh size, a first calf section having a first calf size, and a second calf section having a second calf size, wherein each of the first thigh size, the second thigh size, the first calf size, and the second calf size is different from each other.

37. The compression garment system of claim 36, wherein the thigh section selected is any one of the first thigh section, the second thigh section, the first calf section, or the second calf section, and the calf section selected is any one of the first thigh section, the second thigh section, the first calf section, or the second calf section.

38. The compression garment system of any one of claims 35 to 37, wherein the thigh section and the calf section are attached via a zipper.

39. The compression garment system of any one of claims 31 to 38, wherein the detachable tabs associated with adjacent inflatable sections of the garment member have different lengths.

40. The compression garment system of any one of claims 31 to 39, wherein the garment member further includes one or more expansion zones, each zone arranged for receiving an at least one mechanical insert for improving the garment fit to a pressurised area of the limb and/or complimenting the pressurisation effect of the compression garment on a pressurised area of the limb.

41. A compression garment system for circulatory-related disorder therapy, the compression garment system comprising: a garment member comprising a set of one or more inflatable sections and configured to be fitted about a user’s limb, wherein the garment member further includes one or more expansion zones, each expansion zone arranged for overlapping at least a portion of an inflatable section of the garment, so that expansion of the expansion zone improves the garment fit to a pressurised area of the limb.

42. The compression garment system of claim 41, wherein the expansion zone is an inflatable chamber.

43. The compression garment system of claim 42, wherein the expansion zone is arranged to be pressurised independently from the inflatable sections.

44. The compression garment system of claim 42 or claim 43, wherein the inflatable chamber is arranged for inflation prior to the pressurisation of the garment member.

45. The compression garment system of any one of claims 42 to 44, wherein the inflatable chamber is maintained at a relatively constant pressure.

46. The compression garment system of claim 41, wherein the expansion zone is arranged for receiving at least one mechanical insert.

47. The compression garment system of claim 46, wherein the one or more expansion zones includes pockets that are formed by at least one of an outer layer and a middle layer of the garment member.

48. The compression garment system of claim 46 or claim 47, wherein the pockets are fillable with foam.

49. The compression garment system of any one of claims 41 to 48, wherein the one or more expansion zones is one expansion zone that spans a length of the garment member.

50. The compression garment system of any one of claims 41 to 49, further comprising at least one insert for introducing into one of the expansion zones.

51. A compression garment system for circulatory-related disorder therapy, the compression garment system comprising: a garment member configured to be fitted about a user’s limb, the garment member including: a pair of attachment edges extending generally along the length of the limb arranged to be secured to each other when the garment is donned; and a limb fitting member configured to facilitate a desired fit of the garment member to the limb; and a garment donning member, configured to allow donning and removing of the garment from the limb, without changing the fit achieved by way of adjusting the limb fitting member.

The compression garment system of claim 51, wherein the limb fitting member comprises a tab member extending proximately one of the attachment edges, the tab member including one or more adjustable tabs, each tab extendable during use generally transverse to the limb, to attach to the opposing attachment edge of the garment member, adjustment of the tubs facilitating a desired fit of the garment member to the limb.

53. The compression garment system of claim 51 or claim 52, wherein: the tab member is detachable and securable to the garment member proximately the attachment edge by way of an attachment mechanism, the detachable tab member including one or more adjustable tabs, each tab extendable during use generally transverse to the limb, to attach to the opposing edge of the garment member, thus securing the garment member to the limb, wherein the detachable tab member is configured to be attached to, and detached from, the attachment edge of the garment member during use via the attachment mechanism so that the garment can be donned on, and removed from, the limb without having to detach the adjustable tabs.

54. The compression garment system of claim 53, wherein the attachment member and/or one or more of the attachment tabs comprises one or more magnets located proximately one of the attachment edges and arranged to engage a corresponding magnet located proximately the opposite attachment edge, so as to facilitate fitting the garment to the user’s limb.

55. The compression garment system of claim 53 or claim 54, wherein one or more of the attachable tabs are arranged to be attachable to more than one different location at the opposing edge, to vary the degree of tightness of the garment around the limb, the arrangement being such that the adjustable tabs are initially set up to fit the garment to the leg and once a good fit is achieved, the garment can be donned on, and removed from, the limb without having to interfere with the setup of the adjustable tabs.

56. The compression garment system of claim 53 or claim 55, wherein the attachment mechanism is a zipper and/or each of the adjustable tabs comprises hook-and-loop arrangement.

57. The compression garment system of claim 56, wherein the attachment mechanism is a zipper and the zipper is located adjacent to the one or more adjustable tabs.

58. A compression garment system for circulatory-related disorder therapy, the compression garment system comprising: a garment member configured to be fitted about a user’s limb; and a plurality of tabs attached to the garment member for securing the garment to the user’s limb, the plurality of tabs having different widths to provide anatomical partitioning of the plurality of tabs along the user’s limb, at least one of the plurality of tabs being further partitioned to include two sub-tabs, allowing each of the two sub-tabs to extend in a different direction, to better secure the compression garment to the limb.

59. The compression garment system of claim 58, wherein the partitioning of the at least one of the plurality of tabs is arranged to fit to a joint of the limb.

60. The compression garment system of claim 59, wherein the partitioning of the at least one of the plurality of tabs is arranged to fit to a knee- or an elbow-joint.

61. The compression garment system of any one of claims 58 to 60, wherein the plurality of tabs includes intermediate stretchable material portions along the width of the tabs.

62. The compression garment system of any one of claims 58 to 61, wherein the plurality of tabs bridges a gap that extends along a majority of a length of the garment member.

63. The compression garment system of any one of claims 58 to 62, wherein the two sub-tabs have different dimensions.

64. A compression garment system for circulatory-related disorder therapy, the compression garment system comprising: a garment member configured to be fitted about a user’s limb; and

AMENDED SHEET (ARTICLE 19) 88 a garment cover attached to the garment member, the garment cover including one or more layers arranged to form one or more donning aids that facilitate at least one of: (a) donning the garment member on the user’s limb, (b) positioning the garment member about or along the user’s limb, or (c) removing the garment member from the user’s limb, the one or more layers including a hook tab and a first layer, the first layer being a fabric layer.

65. The compression garment system of claim 64, wherein a length of the garment member is about the same as a length of the garment cover.

66. The compression garment system of claim 64 or claim 65, wherein the one or more donning aids includes an opening in the garment cover and/or a pocket in the garment cover.

67. The compression garment system of any one of claims 64 to 66, wherein the one or more donning aids provide handles for positioning the garment member about the user’s limb.

68. The compression garment system of any one of claims 64 to 67, wherein the one or more donning aids includes donning aids in a thigh region, donning aids in a knee region, and/or donning aids in an ankle region.

69. The compression garment system of any one of claims 64 to 68, wherein the one or more layers further includes a second layer and a reinforcement layer.

70. The compression garment system of claim 69, wherein the first layer is a melange layer, the second layer is an unbroken loop (UBL) layer, and the third layer is a plastic layer.

71. The compression garment system of any one of claims 64 to 70, wherein the one or more donning aids are configured to receive a foot, a hand, or a limb extension to facilitate donning or removing the garment member.

72. The compression garment system of any one of claims 64 to 71, wherein the one or more donning aids includes a plurality of donning aids for separately receiving fingers of the user.

73. The compression garment system of any one of claims 64 to 72, wherein the one or more donning aids includes an ankle donning aid provided around an ankle region of the garment member, the ankle donning aid configurable in a free hanging position or in a lifted position.
