Abstract:
A hermetically sealed motor compressor 10 comprising a housing 12 enclosing an electric motor 18 having a rotor 22 and a stator 20. A vertically oriented crankshaft 24 connected at one end to said rotor 22 and has an offset crankshaft journal 28 at its other end. An oil passage is provided in the journal 28 and an oil pick-up tube 74 has a first straight end portion 76 projecting into an oil sump 14. The second end portion 82 is axially aligned with the vertical rotation axis A of the said crankshaft 24. A helically twisted fin insert 86 is provided in the second straight en portion 82 and the first and second portions 76, 82 are connected by an S-shaped intermediate portion 88.
