Disclosed are a computing apparatus for performing authentication of a pattern code including facial feature information, and a method therefor. The computing apparatus comprises: a communication device; a memory for storing or loading a pattern code authentication program including facial feature information; and a processor for executing the pattern code authentication program, wherein the pattern code authentication program includes instructions configured to: generate face vector data representing facial features from an image of the face of a authentication requester by using an artificial intelligence (AI) face recognition model; extract face vector data from scan data of a pattern code presented by the authentication requestor; when the similarity between the generated face vector data and the extracted face vector data is greater than or equal to a preset threshold, determine that the authentication requester is the same person as the user who registered the facial image in the pattern code, and successfully process pattern code authentication.
