Abstract:
Provided are a concentration method and concentration apparatus, that can carry out the low-cost concentration of a treatment-target water containing high concentrations of sulfate ion and at least one of the sodium ion and ammonium ion, and that can reduce the amount of waste water having a high ion concentration. The concentration method contains a semipermeable membrane treatment step that uses a semipermeable membrane module (10) having a first space (14) partitioned from a second space (16) by a semipermeable membrane (12). In the semipermeable membrane treatment step, a concentrated water is obtained by passing the treatment-target water through the first space (14), pressurizing the first space (14), and permeating the water contained in the treatment-target water through the semipermeable membrane (12); and a dilute water is obtained by passing a portion of the treatment-target water or at least a portion of the concentrated water through the second space (16). The treatment-target water has a sulfate ion concentration of at least 20,000 mg/L and has a concentration of at least one of the sodium ion and ammonium ion of at least 10,000 mg/L.
