Abstract:
A device for keeping the distance between a pair of concrete forms and the distance between the reinforcing rod frames and the wall forms, is disclosed. The device is easy to use, i.e. no tools are required for positioning it during the construction of the concrete wall frames. The device is made of plastic materials. After the wall frames are removed, the resulting concrete wall has a smooth finish that can be further treated.

Claims:
CLAIMS

1. A device for keeping the distance between a pair of concrete forms, the distance between the pair of reinforcing rod frames and the distance between the reinforcing rod frames and the concrete frames during wall construction, the device is comprised of: a. An elongated body the length of which equals the desired distance between the concrete forms; b. two clamps firmly attached to the body for clamping the body to the reinforcing rods, where the distance between the clamps defines the distance between the pair of the reinforcing rods; and c. plurality of rings firmly attached on the body for preventing water leakage through the concrete wall.

2. The device for keeping the distance between a pair of concrete forms, the distance between the pair of reinforcing rod frames and the distance between the reinforcing rod frames and the concrete frames during wall construction, as in claim 1, produced as one unit made out of plastic material.

3. A device for keeping the distance between a pair of concrete forms, the distance between the pair of reinforcing rod frames and the distance between the reinforcing rod frames and the concrete frames during wall construction, the device is comprised of:

a. elongated body which includes two clamps for clamping the body to the rods of the reinforcing rod frames, where the distance between the clamps determines the distance between the two reinforcing rod frames, where the body have holes on both sides;

b. two edge units part of which can be inserted into the holes in the body of the device, and when fully inserted, the surface of the edge units support the wall frames, thus the distance between the two surfaces of the edge unit defines the width of the concrete wall; the edge units can be extracted from the body of the device after the wall frames are removed; and c. plurality of rings firmly attached on the body for preventing water leakage through the concrete wall.

The device for keeping the distance between a pair of concrete forms, the distance between the pair of reinforcing rod frames and the distance between the reinforcing rod frames and the concrete frames during wall construction, as in claim 1 , wherein springs are inserted into the holes in the body, and the edge units are pressed against the springs, when tying the wall frames; the edge units pop out once the wall frames are removed so they can be easily extracted.

The device for keeping the distance between a pair of concrete forms, the distance between the pair of reinforcing rod frames and the distance between the reinforcing rod frames and the concrete frames during wall construction, as in claim 1 wherein the edge units are screwed into the body, and can be removed by unscrewing it.

The device for keeping the distance between a pair of concrete forms, the distance between the pair of reinforcing rod frames and the distance between the reinforcing rod frames and the concrete frames during wall construction, as in claims 3,4 and 5 where the body and the edge units are made of plastic material.

CONCRETE FORM SPREAD BRACKET

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present invention generally relates to the field of concrete wall form building and more particularly, the present invention relates to concrete wall form spreader and reinforcing rod spacer.

BACKGROUND ART

[0002] When building concrete wall form, one must pay attention to three problems. These are maintaining the opposed wall form sides accurately spaced from each other, maintaining the two spaced apart reinforcing rod frames properly spaced from each other, and maintaining proper position of the reinforcing rod frames from the their respective wall form sides.

[0003] Nowadays concrete wall form constructors use two different means to cope with the three problems stated above. A U shaped rod is used to keep the proper distance between the reinforcing rod frames. A separating rod having the desired length of the space between the wall forms is tied to the rods of the reinforcing frame so that the distance between the reinforcing rod frame and the form walls is maintained. The wall forms are pressed against the distance rod, so that the desired width of the concrete wall forms is achieved. The form walls are pressed together by tying wire surrounding the uprights of the wall forms.

[0004] After pouring and setting of the concrete between the forms, the forms are removed from the concrete wall. The edges of the distance rods are clearly seen on the surface of the concrete wall.

[0005] US patent 4,635,895 by Johnson et al. "Concrete Form Spreader Bracket" discloses a spreader bracket designed for stem wall of a housing foundation. Its main objective is to position the wall forms in the proper heights with respect to each other. [0006] There is a need for a cheap and easy to use spread bracket that provides proper spacing between the form walls and between the form walls and the reinforcing rod frames. It is also desired that minimal footstep of the spread bracket will be left on the concrete wall, for better future treatment of the surface of the concrete wall.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

[0007] A device for keeping the distance between a pair of concrete forms and the distance between the reinforcing rod frames and the wall forms, is disclosed. The device is easy to use, i.e. no tools are required for positioning it during the construction of the concrete wall frames. The device is made of plastic materials. After the wall frames are removed, the resulting concrete wall has a smooth finish that can be further treated.

[0008] In the he preferred embodiment the devise is built from a body and edge units. Integrated in the body are two clamps that are designed to be easily clamped to the rods of reinforcing rod frames placed in the concrete wall. The distance between the clamps defines the distance between the two reinforcing rod frames. The edge units which are inserted into the ends of the body, are designed so that the can be extracted of the removal of the wall frames.

[0009] In another embodiment, the device is designed as one unit, whereas the edges cannot be extracted, so that the can be seen on the concrete wall. However, the edges are designed so that only small visible areas remain on the concrete wall.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0021] The invention will be described more fully hereinafter, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which certain possible embodiments of the invention are shown. The invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather these embodiments are provided so that the disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art.

[0022] In the following description, the same numerical references refer to similar elements. The embodiments, geometrical configurations, materials mentioned and/or dimensions shown in the figures or described in the present description are embodiments only, given solely for exemplification purposes.

[0023] Fig 1 presents a typical structure of a concrete wall forms. The wall forms is comprised of two opposed , spaced apart wall form sides. Each wall form side is comprised of wall form plate 110, 120 which are supported by vertical members 112 and 122 respectively. In between the form sides parallel reinforcing rod frames 130 and 140 are disposed inwards of the sides of the wall . Each reinforcing rod frame 130, 140 is in the form of an open lattice which has large rectangular openings and consists of horizontal frame rods 132, 142 and vertical frame rods 134, 144. The horizontal and vertical rods are wired together at selected regions of crossings as presented in 136, 146. The two wall forms are tied together by tying wire 150 which surrounds opposing vertical members 112, 122.

[0024] It is important to make sure that the distance from the reinforcing rod frames 130, 140 and the respective for, plates 110, 120, as indicated by arrows 150 and 154, are maintained as well as the distance between the form plates 110, 120 during the pouring of the concrete. Note that this can be achieved by controlling the distance between the two reinforcing rod frames, 130, 140 as shown by arrow 152.

[0025] Figure 2 presents a front view of the concrete wall shown in FIG 1, where the basic characteristics of disclosed spreader are presented. The spreader 210 is comprised of a base 212 on which two clamps 214 are positioned and two edge units 216. The clamps are designed to be easily attached to the rods of the reinforcement frame, and it can be attached either to the horizontal rods 132, 142 (as shown in thee figure) or to the vertical rods 134, 144.

[0026] The elements of the spreader are also presented in FIG 3. In this figure it is shown that here are rings 310 in both sides of the spreader body. These rings prevent water leakage between the two sides of the wall once the frames are removed.

[0027] Note that the distance between the wall form and the reinforcement rod frames is determined by the distance between the spreader clamps and the surface of the edge unit 218, and the distance between the reinforcement frames is defined by the distance between the two clamps.

[0028] There are two main objectives in the design of the spreader, besides its functionality. It to be cheap and the surface of the concrete wall after the removal of the wall frames has to be suitable for further treatment. It is important to note that many spreaders are required to firmly keep the space between the wall frames to prevent it from moving inward during the construction of the wall. Hence. If the area of the surface of the edge unit is big then the final surface of the concrete wall is not suitable for further treatments.

[0029] To cope with the cost, the spreaders disclosed are all made from polymers materials that can withstand the pressure of tying the form walls. There are two methods to cope with the surface area issue. These two methods are presented hereafter. [0030] In figure 4, an embodiment of one piece spreader with multi-point edge surface is presented. The area which touches the wall frame panel is comprised of plurality of reinforces narrow cylinders 410. An example of such a reinforced cylinder is shown in figure 4a. The cylinder 412 is supported by fins 414.

[0031] Another embodiment of a spreader with extractable edges is shown in figure 5. The spreader 510 is constructed from a body 520 that contains the clamps 214, and an extractable edge 530. After the removal of the forms, as shown in figure5a, the extractable edges are removed from the structure, and the cavities in the structure 540, resulting from the spacing members are filled with cement. Thus, the body 520 is buried in the concrete wall 550. Note that the metal rod of the reinforcing frame 532 are within the clamps 214 of the spreader.

[0032] A preferred embodiment of the edge extraction mechanism is presented in figures 6a, 6b and 6c. The structure of the spreader edge 610 is shown in figure 6a. The spreader edge is placed into a hole 622 in the spreader, as shown in figure 6b. In the hole there is a spring 612 and small holding pins 624. Before the spreader is used, the spreader edge is held in the hole so that it touches the spring, but it does not exert aby force on it. The spreader edge is held in place by the holding pins 624.

[0033] When placed between the wall frames and pressed, as shown in figure 6c, the spreader edges 610 are entering the hole 622, thus causing the spring to be preloaded 612a. During its movement inwards, the spreader edges 610 break the holding pins 624. Thus, when the wall frames are removed, the compressed springs 612a push the spreader edges out, and they can be easily removed, leaving a hole in the concrete wall.

[0034] In another embodiment, the spreader edges are initially fully screwed into the body of the spreader. When the wall frame is removed, they can be easily unscrewed.

[0035] In another embodiment the spreader body does not include separate edges, but the edge is an integral part of the body. Although in this embodiment the edges of the spreader are visible when the wall frames are removed, the manufacturing cost of this unit is much cheaper than the cost of the unit with removable edges.

[0036] An isometric view of a one piece spreader is presented in figure 7. The clamps 214 are easily attached to the rods of the reinforcement frame. The rings 310 prevent water from penetrating through the wall. The structure of the body is designed to withstand high pressure generated when tying the frames together.

[0037] What has been described above are just a few possible embodiments of the disclosed invention. It is of course, not possible to describe every conceivable combination of components and/or methodologies, but one of ordinary skill in the art may recognize that many further combinations and permutations are possible. Accordingly, the invention is intended to embrace all such alterations, modifications, and variations that fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
