Abstract:
A condenser unit (300) for a chiller assembly is provided. The condenser unit (300) includes a shell (302) having a substantially cylindrical shape, a first tube bundle disposed within the shell(302), and an inlet (304) and an outlet (306) coupled to the shell (302). The inlet (304) is configured to receive vapor refrigerant and the outlet (306) is configured to discharge liquid refrigerant. The inlet (304) includes a substantially straight pipe terminating at a flared lip (308). The flared lip (308) is configured to increase a vapor refrigerant flow path of the inlet from a first cross-sectional area to a second cross-sectional area. The increase from the first cross-sectional area to the second cross-sectional area causes a portion of kinetic energy of the vapor refrigerant to be converted into pressure energy.
